Latest Updates from Our Project:

Hovel, Hovel, Hovel and a Well
about 3 years ago – Fri, Mar 26, 2021 at 01:33:49 AM

For purposes of the campaign, Wimentun village has only three hovels which we believe work perfectly for the early to the high medieval periods. Hovel 3 and the Covered Well in the picture below have both been painted up by George Asling. He has taken a picture with a selection of his own The Barons' War figures to give us a sense of scale.

All three Hovels have been sized to look right on the tabletop while not being too big to dominate the playing space.

Hovel 1

The largest of the Hovels and sculpted with the door off centre in one of the smaller sides of the building situated under an overhanging roof.

Hovel 2

Similar to, but smaller than Hovel 1 this building also has an overhanging roof and a separate lean-to woodpile, that can be placed against any of the buildings.

Hovel 3

Sculpted with the door in the centre of one of the longer sides to make it different in style from the other two buildings,  Hovel 3 is a substantial dwelling.

All three of these buildings are typical village fair and wouldn't look out of place as part of an Anglo-Saxon/Anglo-Danish village or dare I say fantasy settlement.

Covered Well

Every village needs a water source and Wimentun is no exception.  Our well has a cover to keep debris out which works great for blocking line of sight during games.  We also included a water trough for the horses to drink from, which is great for standing behind so your opponent can't get a clean charge at you.

Each spinning videos has been created using renders of the actual sculpts, however, having seen the actual printed resin versions I believe the physical terrain pieces turned out to be much better.

Day 5 starts with new Villagers
about 3 years ago – Thu, Mar 25, 2021 at 07:36:42 PM

Good morning all I hope you have had a great start to the day.  I have new things to share starting with the third group of Village Characters.

Village Characters 3

What we have here is a beggar(?), a leper a farmhand and a villager with a basket full of goodies.

But is he really a beggar...take a closer look.

The Outlaws like to keep a close eye on what is happening in the villages near their camp, this chap although appearing to be begging from Eustace's men is really gathering information.

Wimentun Village

One of the things we have been asked for, and rightly so, is more information on the village. So we have started to compile "spinny" images of featured terrain pieces so you can view all sides, this video of the Treehouse is an example.

Along with these videos we are taking photos of finished pieces with miniatures so you can can get a sense of scale.

The Barn and a Haystack

More updates are planned with the village in mind I just wanted to let you know we are working on it.

The Ambush Figure

Last but not least I have updated the wording on the graphic for the "All the Death & Taxes Figures" pledge to make things a little less confusing.  Anyone who pledges £134 or more will receive the really cool 'Ambush' figure I will add them to your pledge in the pledge manager.

Death and Taxes, A Campaign Supplement for The Barons' War
about 3 years ago – Thu, Mar 25, 2021 at 05:10:18 AM

In our campaign Death and Taxes, there are two sides to the argument, in simple terms, the 'Goodies' and the 'Baddies' which is which depends on your view of King John and the civil war, or as far as Wimentun is concerned what is right and wrong.

With recent events resulting in rebel forces taking control of Nottinghamshire, those in charge are now asking for new taxes to fund their war.  Unfortunately for the locals accompanying this request for payment has been the threat of villages being burnt to the ground if the amount is not met.

"You must pay up if you want to enjoy the new King's peace", Phillipe Marc, the High Sheriff, had said.

With the stage set, Marc has instructed his man Eustace de Lowdham to extract additional taxes from the people of Nottinghamshire by any means necessary.  Unknown to these tax collectors, the villagers of Wimentun, having paid their taxes recently to the crown, are reluctant to do so again. Their reasons being lack of funds, they are villagers after all and not recognising the new 'false' King, Louis of France.

With their village now under threat, St Oswald's priest reluctantly realises that he must step up and protect his flock.

For Death and Taxes, you choose your side. Are you noble Eustace, revered by your men but in the service of the wicked Sheriff, just trying to do your job? Or are you The Priest of St Oswald church a mysterious man with a few skeletons in the closet who, after retiring to Wimentun for a quiet life, has his peace shattered by consequences relating to the civil war?

Good Morning on Day 3!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 24, 2021 at 05:58:29 AM

A very good morning to everyone, it is fantastic to wake up to see we have unlocked the Poacher & Gamekeeper while I was asleep.  This means we have reached our very last stretch goal which is The Templars.

Why are there Templars involved?  Well these four are visiting the priest of Wimentun at the time our campaign takes place, wrong time at the right place? Not for the villagers!

I am now working on creating a "All the Death & Taxes Figures" pledge to give you an option to back for one of everything - the initial 10 packs and all the stretch goals.  This will be available today I will let you know when it is up.
